The 2002 season was a hugely successful one, with all the ‘A’ sides winning more games than they lost. The school put out 8 teams at Bantams level against RGS Guildford and continued to field a full complement of 21 teams against Harrow, Radley and Wellington.
The 1st XV played some thrilling rugby and finished the season with a record of Played 11 Won 6 Lost 4 Drawn 1. For Doug Aarvold, the Captain, and his year group this was a magnificent achievement, as it was their first ‘winning’ season while at the school.
Another first was the appearance of both the Acting Headmaster and Second Master as referees on most Saturdays.

All the teams were well supported and there was an enormous amount of enthusiasm, commitment and sportsmanship shown by all concerned. Throughout the season the school was complimented for its hosting and the quality of its grounds. ‘There isn’t a better playing surface than the 50’ said a London Society referee. (He obviously didn’t know the old 50: Ed.)
