To celebrate Tonbridge’s success in being the holders of both the Cricketer Cup and the Halford Hewitt, a golf match was held at Wildernesse Golf Club on Saturday 20th February followed by a dinner at a local pub. Helped by some generous handicapping, the cricketers won the match 4-1. The suggestion of a return cricket match in the summer was thought to involve even more difficult handicapping issues. Among those who took part were, Chris Walsh, Jamie Ford, Jamie Rowe, Matt Banes and Jono Arscott from the 2009 Cricketer Cup, and Geoff Clay, George Taggart, John Spurling, Chris Lloyd, Jason Foster and Richard Partridge from the winning 2009 Halford Hewitt team. The dinner was regaled by a few stories from Peter Bathurst, historian and statistician of Tonbridge cricket and golf, as well as a notable Halford Hewitt golfer of earlier years. The 2010 Halford Hewitt starts on Thursday 8th April at Royal St. George's with a match at 12.00 against Wellington, while the cricketers kick off their campaign at Uppingham on Sunday 13th June.
