OLD TONBRIDGIAN SOCIETY HISTORY PROJECT

The Secretary has been approached by Dr Martin Pickstone for help with his historical research into the impact of the 1914-18 War on later generation OTs. His study is for a research degree in History at the University of Kent. Details of the help he is after are given below.

If you are interested in becoming involved please contact Dr Pickstone direct.

I would like to meet Old Tonbridgians who joined the school anytime between 1933 and 1953 to hear about school life from the thirties to the fifties. I am particularly interested in what they may have learnt about the 1914 - 18 War (through school ceremonies, the staff, Armistice Days etc). I should also like to meet ex-members of staff who joined the school between 1943 and 1953.

I am a research scientist with a keen amateur interest in modern history and in particular the longer-term impact of the First World War. These interviews would be the basis for a postgraduate research degree in history at the University of Kent.

Would anyone who is interested please contact me - the details are below? Meetings are likely to take up to two hours, will be tape-recorded and most will be transcribed. I will re-contact you for any clarifications or further explanations.

I live in South East London and would travel to meet anyone reachable by a day’s return journey either by train or car.
